Daybreak on a crisp April morning and yours truly has already been on the go
for a couple of hours. Why is the eternal and perplexing question that
deserves an answer. Today that answer is a little matter of the Oakley 20 at
Lincroft Middle School. Mile markers being slotted home and water station
provisions laid out. In the opposite direction to me, Brian and Kevin, Steve
Crane is busy doing his bit before kick-off at 10 a.m. Still more to do as
drivers rush to locate that all important parking space as yours truly directs
them at the Oakley crossroads.
10 a.m. signals the start of the main event and a few action shots as runners
address a taxing course before I begin addressing the Fun Run. That goes
smoothly as yours truly grabs a quick bite and a cup of tea before the lead
runner passes through and maintains that lead to secure victory in a shade
under 2 hours. Harriers well represented with Duncan the first Harrier home,
with Alan second. Liz, Lynn and a host of other members too numerous to
mention do the business on the day. Mega thanks to one and all who spent part
or all of their weekend in Oakley to make this event a reality, the
refreshments crew who did a sterling job and to the Three Wise - ish men in
the guise of Brian McCallen, Kevin Willett and Steve Crane. Plenty of images
captured of perhaps one of the best staged races in the county. Time for sleep
and much more. Goodnight
