Last Friday 5K – Race Report

The Boys were at it again testing their wits at the one-lap course in Hyde Park. Today turned out to be a different kettle of fish for one runner. To begin with, we got lost within the underneaths of the Hyde Park underground tunnels and no name mentioned. Upon arrival at the bandstand, the one and only Alan Shillitoe appeared from no where. We all congregated until it was time to set off the for 3.1 mile trek. As usual, Adam was ahead and touched the first kilometre in 3.5 minutes and was on target for a 17.5 minute run. This was not to be the case because the mighty Justin decided to overtake Adam just before the 4 kilometre mark. Adam’s excuse, right calf injury and was deliberately holding back. Justin crossed the line a notch under 19 minutes and was the first Harrier home. Once we all crossed the 5K mark, including Joe Horseman, we all congratulated each others’ efforts and especially Keith who concluded that episode. As usual, we all headed straight to the pub restaurant at March Able for our brunch. Some of us ordered fish and chips, which turned out to be nothing more than pre-packed rubbish. Meanwhile, Keith bravely decided not to join us for the 2 for £8.20 lunch deal and probably made a good decision. We all returned home safely in Bedford and reformed for the Club’s quiz in which we finished third position. Not a bad day after all considering we were accompanied by a friendly Bedford and County runner who added a sparkle of hope
