The 1000 metre ascent to Pla d'Adet has been a dramatic end of stage 'Hors Catégorie' climb several times in the Tour de France. On Saturday I did the11km foot race version which uses some tracks to short cut the road route but remains runable by the fit. I didn't have a chance to recce the route so the easier gradient for the last 3km came as a welcome surprise and I eventually finished 28th out 97 finishers in 1:06:23 which was just good enough for 1st in the V3 age category.
The entry fee included a cable car ride back down the mountain to the start with opportunities to enjoy the superb mountain views that were missed during the ascent and an "apéro" after the prizegiving. (I can only translate this 'apéro' as a 'substantial buffet lunch' !.
