Race Report:
Yet again The Embankment was filled with women in pink and fancy dress to take
part in the Race For Life, Cancer Research's fun 5k and 10k run, jog and walk.
The majority of participants took part in the fast paced warm up beforehand and
then (a change for this year) we had to look out for specific flags to find out
positions for the starting line.
This should have been the the first year that I should really not have taken
part (especially as I had taken part in yesterday's parkrun which had been my
furthest distance I had actually walked in a month). But as it was a charity
event (and a charity close to my heart), nothing was going to stop me taking
part so I did, but with great reluctance and restraint,
I followed my specialist's advice and walked the entire course.
The crowds were very supportive again and Jack was there cheering us on where
the support waned a little in numbers. Dave B was also rather enthusiastic at
his marshaling post (I could hear you from a distance - funny considering my
hearing loss!)
It was a great relief to take the 500 metres up to the finish and collect the
medal and goodie bag (couldn't miss out on my goodie bag!) Once finished I
looked across the river and people were still walking so it most certainly is
do-able for a run, jog or walk.
This annual event is well worth participating in; for the organisation, the fun
and most importantly for the cause (and my respect is for those who 'run' for
charity).
