Grimsthorpe Ultra 70 – 9am Friday 12thAugust 2011. A great event set in the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire. Fat Feet Blisters were the organisers and staged both the 70 and 105 mile Ultras starting at 9am on the Friday.

The route consisted of 7 laps of 10 miles on a mixture of trail, limestone and tarmac. This was my longest single day event and the most I had ever run, to say I was apprehensive would be an under statement.

The event website stated each runner would have to be self sufficient as minimal food would be provided. They under sold themselves as there was lots of hot stew, bars, peanuts, chocolate, fruit and crisps. I took advantage every lap from 3 onwards of the massage facilities provided free and they kept me going.

Night running and fatigue mixed together cause a lot of runners to hallucinate, I was no exception to this and lap 6 having not seen anyone for 8 miles I saw 3 witches sitting behind a tree. I didn't approach them but it aided me in picking up my pace.

Both events saw a lot of DNF's so I was pleased to complete it at 5.30am on Saturday 13th August after taking 20hrs and 29 mins, crossing the line with a large smile and a broken body.

I would thoroughly recommend this event and praise Fat Feet Blisters as an event organiser. They also stage half marathons and marathons in addition to the Ultra's
