I had a good run in the very hilly Semi-Marathon de Pechbusque) and finished 9th (out of 101) overall, 1st V3 (and 1st V2 and 3rd V1).
However, my race tactics are clearly badly wrong. (I am a slow learner.) The award for 1st V3 was a plastic trophy, a XL tee-shirt, a key ring, a pin, 6 sticky plasters and two baseball caps. 2nd and 3rd in my category received a consolation bottle of wine – a fact they used to tease me at the post-race apéro.
The temperature was some 20 degrees higher than for the RNR but my time, 1:36:49, was slower than my previous effort on this course and, again, indicates that my 3-hour objective (WAVA 88.4%) in the Chicago Marathon is unrealistically optimistic.
