National Indoor Champs - 3k Racewalk

Second place in a 'senior' age group is normally quite a routine experience with walkers or indeed runners well strung out around the course. In going for a 'national' event a race rather than a procession can be hoped for.
However, when the margin is just 0.58 of
a second after slogging round fifteen laps the whole thing is INFURIATING!
The opposition was Eric Horwell, a
walker from Stourbridge in the Midlands with long experience, especially at
distances of up to 100 miles. The last thing expected was a neck-and-neck
tussle for the whole of the race. This was just how it happened, with the
Midlander having enough steam left to get in front with a few meters to go.
Overall an annual meeting well worth
attending. The running events up to 3000m also involve veterans from 35+ of
all ability levels. The club's track programmes with eg 400m splits would
provide ideal preparation. If Harriers are interested, try
bvaf.org.uk for more info and full
meeting results, or drop me an email via the Harriers website.
Keep running!
