I arrived in Grantham with great anticipation on a lovely sunny morning,
and concerns my Grizzly legs would carry me. This Half Marathon started
in the Kesteven Sports Stadium, a fairly new and impressive running
stadium on the edge of Grantham, heading out over the A1 in the
countryside toward Belvour Castle. 2 miles of road an then along a long
stretch of Canal Two Path. This had promise of a fairly level course
however illusions were smashed as we left the tow path after about 4 miles
to face the first hill, a very steep affair. I joined a friendly Sleaford
Club runner at the top, with relief – prepare yourself for the next one at
9 miles I was warned. We jollied ourselves through the Lincolnshire
countryside to the 9 mile hill point which was a daunting prospect, but
knowing it was fairly level for the remaining 3 miles to finish in the
Stadium. A memorable finish around the track on surprisingly bouncy
surface after 13 miles of road. It was a warm day and the kit kat in the
goody bag totally melted. Grizzly legs suffering. De briefed with
Sleaford runners, thank you for supporting company.
