An insider’s view of the Sheffield Half Marathon that was cancelled but we all ran it and got a time!

All I can say is it wouldn’t have happened if the Harriers had been running it.

I was running the race with my son-in-law who lives in Sheffield (and who is rather faster than me). It was meant to be a 9am start so we had arrived quite early and everyone was lined up by 8.50, at first there was a rumour that the race was postponed until 9.30 but at about 9.50 we began to hear there was a cancelation but  almost immediately everyone ahead began to move off and we all followed assuming that the race was running after all. The main problem from a runners perspective was a lack of information, beyond the first few runners no-one heard any announcements at all so we had no idea that the race was officially cancelled. But, on the bright side there was good support out in the city and apart from the first and last water stations, there was water too! It did seem rather a long Half-marathon, but perhaps that was because we had all been standing around for an hour waiting to start, but they did give out the medals and teeshirts at the end!
