Some claim that the Derwentwater 10
mile race, a clockwise tour of the Lake starting and finishing
in Keswick, is the most scenic road race in the UK and runners
travel long distances to take part. The weather was perfect for
the 56th edition of the race and the views were truly
magnificent. Of course, good scenery usually involves hills and
the Derwentwater is no exception - there are some particularly
hard climbs between miles 5 and 8 (in Fred Whitton cycling
sportive country), Some competitors in my part of the field were
walking. Consequently I was surprised and very pleased with my
time.
