The Winter Run was through traffic-free streets; along the Embankment to the Tower and up to St Paul’s Cathedral, returning to the Admiralty. There were Snow Zones to spray us with fake snow, images of Swiss Winter Wonderland and even Polar Bears on hugging duty to compliment the real cold icy chill off The Thames! Brilliantly organised with efficient baggage drop-off, a series of warm up exercise areas and starting waves to allow those that wanted to race not to be hindered by those that wanted just to be part of it. Setting off at 6:30 for a 9:30 start to a race that lasted at most 45min seems like a chore but it was a fund raiser and it is set to raise an impressive £700,000 of sponsorship money for Cancer Research UK.
