The National Trust Night Runs have been taking place at National Trust houses all over the UK this winter as part of their dark festival. The 10th event was at Wimpole Hall, near Royston, on the 7th March and 5  eager Harriers made the 45 minute journey, head torches at the ready, to take part in what turned out to be a fantastic fun event. The 7 KM undulating course was all off road and much of it was uneven parkland which made running in the dark quite hairy at times, but we all made in round in one piece despite some very enthusiastic dogs dragging their owners along at break neck speed.

We all set off at around 18:20, once the sun had gone down, and the park was truly dark. When the faster runners reached the folly at the top of the final hill they were treated to the sight of a line of lights stretching back across the grounds as far as you could see. Amazing sight. The marshals were really encouraging and plentiful. There were a few other club runners taking part but most of the entrants were Wimpole park runners and local residents, hence my ranking as first lady vet 50!

If the National Trust decide to repeat this event we would certainly do it again.
