David Prior 6:04:23 5:21:36

There have been eight Brighton Marathons in all. It so happens that Dave Prior has completed all eight - his efforts spanning the M60-64 age group and the even more experienced M65-69  group.

Harriers have been busy in this event in the past - in 2014 Anna Folland was comfortably inside the 3-hour mark in winning the strongly contested W35+ age-group, while in 2015 no less than eighteen Harriers closed in. Then in 2016 our numbers dropped to three, while this time round it was a case of spotting the sole Harrier vest in a field over 7000.  This year the star runners at the front were of no special interest, nor were the tailenders with fancy dress fanatics parading as an elephant or for instance a steam-age computer operator.

So it was a case of making my way from home to the 16 mile point, located in front of Tesco's Hove superstore, after calculating Dave's likely time for passing through, based on his own estimate of his likely pace. More by luck than judgement I needed to wait only fifteen minutes for a very relaxed and confident looking Dave Prior to show up, clearly bent on enjoying the last few  miles and happy to walk and chat for a few minutes.

Dave's time of 5hr 21min 36sec placed him  at 6364 in a field of 7214, and for the further interest of stats fanatics, 44th of 66 in the 65-69 age group.

A very enjoyable event on the 'warmest day of the year' for the City of Brighton and Hove.

Keep running!
