Katrina reports on the race:

After putting on several pounds and having eaten at least 4000 calories yesterday the thought of actually running today was madness. But having spent most of Christmas Day up into the early hours I thought "what better way to work it all off and get some energy back". For some unknown reason I was slightly nervous and the temperatures didn't help but luckily Gavin kept my spirits up and kept me warm. I was glad to see a couple more Harriers at the starting line; Tim and Alison although to be honest I didn't recognise Tim with a white beard and red hat! The run was very well attended with early starters, walkers and the children's races starting first and then the main race beginning at 10.45am.

The course itself was two laps of the recreation grounds first, then off the beaten track to follow with another lap of the rec. It was undulating with the exception of a slight hill a mile or so into it. Thankfully I wore my cross country shoes so didn't mind running through the middle of the mud but jumped over the endless amounts of horse poo! I wasn't looking for a PB, just wanted to complete the course in one piece so ran to the beat of "The First Nowell" which was obviously a good choice at this time of year but fortunately for the other runners I didn't sing it out loud!  When I reached the finishing line my watch gave me the time of 5 seconds; which must have been a world record... sadly for me it always stops when it reaches zero degrees (which is obviously did 5 seconds into the race!). I picked up my bottle of beer and wrist band at the end, helped select the winner of the pre-race excuse and disappeared home for a nice hot shower!

Alison reports on the race:

3 Bedford Harriers turned out for the above race - upon arrival you would have thought you had entered panto land!!! Including our own Tim Price who turned up as Santa. There were so many santas, mother christmas's, fairies etc.

The whole event was great - two childrens races (some real talent in these races - miles ahead of the main bunch).  They had a walking event as well for those who did not want to run the 3.2miles.

Bottle of special Buntingford brew as goody prize - what more can you ask for.
