Malvern Midsummer Marathon

Fabulous race but very brutal
in places, the views were spectacular but the course is far from easy. The Start
is from a small school in Lower Wyche and immediately climbs for a mile and a
half to the summit of North Hill. The terrain does not get any easier after that
either, you have to constantly check your navigation too as it can be very easy
to go wrong, and possibly miles out of your way (a lot did). To show how this
compares to my average off road marathon, I would probably reach half way in
around 1:50 - 2 hrs, today it was just under 3 hours. But the food at the
checkpoint was worth it (see Photo). After more Navigation I finally arrived at
Checkpoint 4 to read that the final 7 miles were described as follows - " The
route from Chase end to the finish follows the main Malvern Ridge and Takes in
TEN named summits plus a "bottom" at the Gullet" - Just glad I didn't read that
before I started! The route took in a total 4,800 feet of ascent, and cooked
meal was waiting for me at the end, what a great day, even if I had to negotiate
some cows with murderous intent! - ah well next week is..........oh, More hills
on the North York Moors :o)
