On Sunday 4th, for the third time in a month I found myself running up on to the North Downs for another 30 mile run. I’m not sure why but obviously the local race organisers think that we like nothing more than running around in the middle of nowhere in winter and they are of course right. I’ve already reported on the Winter Tanners so I’ll start with the XNRG Pilgrim Challenge last weekend (4th/5th Feb). This was a 2 day event with 31 miles along the NDW and 31 miles back the next day.  Of course heavy snow was forecasted for the weekend and on top of that I had a cold. Ignoring all advice I set off anyway and arrive to frozen portaloos (don’t go there!!) and a good field of runners all set for a great weekend. I had a fairly decent run despite the cold and my cold but around 20 miles I began to think ahead to a largely sleepless night in a cold hall and the prospect of being snowed in on Sunday evening south of London. By the time I finished I’d decided to see if I could get a lift back to the start so when I crossed the line I dashed straight over to the waiting taxi to see if I could hop in with the 4 others going back. Thankfully I managed to get around the M25 before it turned into an overnight car park and was home before the snow started.
