Whilst visiting family down south for Christmas I decided to take part in a race hosted by Portsmouth Joggers over the unusual distance of 7.5 miles to try and burn off some of the Festive excesses.

This annual race is set in small village called Horndean starting at the Red Lion Pub, and then heading out across some undulating country lanes taking in the South Downs to another Red Lion Pub in Chalton and back again... unfortunately they only serve water at the turning point and frankly could of done with something a bit stronger as the return leg was uphill and into a strong headwind.

However for the last mile you were rewarded with a downhill stretch to open the legs and really earn the cup of tea and mince pie that were waiting for all the competitors.

As the race focuses on raising funds for the local Queen Alexandria Hospital the club host a very good raffle after the race with some fantastic prizes, however my luck wasn't in and I came away empty handed.

All in all it was a challenging but enjoyable run and I would recommend it should you be in the area in Dec 2014.

Happy New Year Everybody.
