The start was on The Heath at the football club, great location, with a bar, beer, showers etc. The weather was good, cloudy and breezy with sunshine due. We took off at 9.30am pretty much straight on hilly ground, and it remained this way - im sure there were more uphills than downs. Practically all of the run was on trail, fields and bridleways. Plenty of stunning scenery and even a ploughed hill in the mix - in case you needed anything a little technical. Two water stations laden with bananas, jelly babies, marshmallows and smiling marshals .Had a few nice chats en route and saw Ian Sturgess and Steve Crane (that's him waving at the top of a pretty nasty hill - Church Hill at around 12 miles) For those with common sense there was also a 1/4 marathon to try out. The finish was fab - excellent cakes including gingerbread men, carrot cake and chocolate cake. Free cups of tea and coffee, water and squash and a nice autumnal certificate for all the finishers. For £6 this is a good value race and if you need to make friends with a few hills I'd highly recommend it. My Garmin shows 2.11 on a 13.67 mile run. Sarah |
