Bedford Cycletta
(Sunday 29th June 2014)

On Sunday 18 ladies from Bedford Harriers/Beds Road Club took part in a 70km ride from Woburn Abbey.

This was the Bedford Cycletta event aimed at encouraging women to get out on their bikes. There were 3 distances to choose from 20km, 40km and 70km. The idea was to enjoy the day but also to work in  small groups as a team.  For some this was the furthest they had cycled, and a huge sense of achievement when coming over the finish line. The weather was kind to us with the rain beginning as last people came over the  line.

70km route was 2 laps of a lumpy course. First group of 15 ride were set off at 9am, other groups followed every 2 minutes. The first group included Sarah Jane, Sam Baylis, Chris Anstee, Caroline Devine, Marianne Williamson, Beverley Tredget and Alison Cooper.  Sadly we could not all get in the first wave, so some riders took a steady ride until their group, who were in the next wave, caught up.

The group in the first wave felt nearly professional, having a lead out motorbike.

We had this honour until on the second lap when another lady, who had been sitting on our wheel for the first lap, decided to take the front and left us for dead!!!  Sure others will have their own stories to tell about their ride.

Sarah was itching to catch up, and pulled us all along for a number of miles, until she could contain herself anymore, and was unleashed.  Sarah was first lady home for Beds Harriers/BRCC ladies in 2 hrs:20:02 (sadly did not catch the other lady).

Remainder of this group – Sam, Chris and Alison came over the line 2:21:01, 2:21:03;2:21:04
