Race day was cool to start but soon warmed up. It wasn’t a huge ladies field but knowing the bike was not going to be my strongest discipline I employed my usual terrier tactic of trying to get near the front and hang on. Setting off at what I thought was a fairly conservative pace I soon found myself in 2nd place close behind the leader. T1 was a bit slow and I lost a place. The breeze had picked up as we headed out on the bike. If you don’t like hills this is the course for you, also quiet roads and countryside views and well marshalled. I lost a few places on the bike. T2 was quicker but my glutes had ceased up. I set off on the run at what felt was a pedestrian pace with a much shortened stride. I could see a couple of the other ladies in the distance so set off in pursuit. I managed to make up 3 places on the run, to finish in 2:26:57; 5th lady and 1st V45. Looking at the other times my overall run time was only 10 seconds slower than the winning lady. So going to have to work on the transition & cycling. I would recommend this event especially as a first time event. Sal |
