It was a tough one! but I did it, I finished and I didn't come last! The swim went ok, I could of pushed it more but the nerves were getting the better of me, was pleased with my sighting, felt disorientated getting out the water. (note to oneself practise more running out of water). Transition went to plan until running to mount line and race belt comes off but that was minor compared to a lady I met who ran to mount line realising her bike shoes were still in transition. Straight onto the bike with a flat road before a sharp turn right into my 1st of 6 climbs, each climb was followed by a nice downhill, some technical they had orange mattresses around the trees for the descents, they told us at race briefing they'd been quite a few accidents and the hospital was full and had no more room for us, that was nice! The weather was hot and I was feeling it on my last climb. Off the bike into run and I was feeling really strong on first lap but again the heat got to me and had to make use of the 3 water stations on the last lap, overall I was just so pleased to finish. This race was a completely different ball game to what I'm used to, but as Gill reminds me your up against the best. Was an amazing experience the scenery was picture postcard, the support, athletes, atmosphere and after party at top of mountain with sunset was something else. I had hesitations of doing this but I'm so glad I did, a truly memorable experience. Thank you so much to my friends for support and all advice I've had from the experienced, its helped me no end but I have to give a special thanks to my Lovely husband Andrew, Mum and Dad for being there for me. Thank you. I qualified for this race at Dambuster 2013 and only found out 14 weeks ago, which was completely unexpected. Would I recommend a European Championships to you, YES DEFINITELY! ....and here's how: http://www.britishtriathlon.org/great-britain-teams/age-group/how-to-qualify Samantha
