Normally I would obviously be very happy to do a club best time even on a fast, flat, out-and-back course and in ideal conditions for running. However, with 2 miles to go of this Half Marathon, my wheels came off to such an extent that I was reduced to walking up the (only) hill to the finish in Lancaster Castle. I am disappointed that I have absolutely no idea what caused the demise. I ran the first 10 miles at a steady pace consistent with my recent marathon time so I don't think I started too fast. I had run my usual Park Run the previous morning but that does not usually affect me. I had eaten my normal pre-race breakfast but I was very hungry at the finish and consumed handfuls of the provided jelly babies to recover. Perhaps I was being followed by the grim reaper. I need to go faster to escape him! Bob |
