Great Lakeland 3 Day Mountain Marathon
28th April - 1st May 2017
* Running time was 4hr 04 minutes but the finish wasnít open!
This year the weather gods looked favourably down on the GL3D which was based at Coniston and we enjoyed dry, clear conditions, if a little breezy at times. On day2 I arrived at the campsite as the event marquee was blowing down! The courses took us on an anticlockwise tour of the central fells with overnight camps in Langdale and the Duddon valley. Tops visited en route included Wetherlam, Sergeant Man, Scafell, Scafell Pike, Harter Fell and Coniston Old Man. As always a relaxed and challenging event amidst the magnificent Lakeland scenery. On the final day the finish didnít open until midday and competitors were required to estimate their running times and select an appropriate start time from a 2hr window. The easier running conditions caught myself and many others (over half of the top 50) out and we arrived too early!
