This is one of the biggest duathlons of the year and attracted a capacity 800 competitors - many vyiing for a place at the World Championships in France in September.  It was also the British Championships.  Conditions were pretty good and the sun rising through the mist over a (half full) Rutland Water water pretty spectacular.  Just hope we get some rain this summer as the Dambuster Triathlon and Vitruvian competitors will be crawling through mud!  The run is an out and back loop across the dam to Normanton Church and back and the cycle route takes in the infamous Rutland Rollers.  The breeze got up slightly which made the first 7 or 8 miles quite hard work but once we turned the corner and headed back north eastwards we had a following wind.  The final 5k was a shortened version of the 1st loop.

Jill 'did it again' and stormed through to win her age category and claim her place at the World Champs.  I needed to get 4th and missed out by a minute.   The winner of my (60-64) age category came home with 2hr 14 mins!!  At least I managed the 2nd fastest 5k in my age category) so a bit work to do (especially the bike) before the Cambridge Duathlon in April - the final qualifier -I just hope the fast boys stay away!
