Race Report.
It was going to be a rather chilly start (and
possibly wet) for the Blisworth 5K on Friday evening. I was actually debating
whether I wanted to go out yet again and 'die' of yet another bout of
hyperthermia but got myself there and talked myself into it.
There were a few other Harriers taking part
although I did feel that the numbers were disappointing considering that
Blisworth is not far from Bedford and that the course was only 5K so 'do-able'
by most. Well, if I can....
Having wrapped up for the elements I hovered
around the back for the start, took a few minutes for everyone to get going and
pass the start line but it was good to run down the first hill. I had my mind
set on achieving the same time as last year, if not a bit slower, but the hills
this year seemed to have grown in size, either that or I had shrunk in size
(probably a little too much swimming practice). All but the first hill seemed to
be on an incline and never ending and I was almost ready to give up by the first
kilometre. Fortunately it wasn't just me that found them difficult.
The marshals were encouraging and there were a
couple of frozen supporters along the course, mainly at the pub!
I was ever so glad to reach the finish, set back
in the farm, and am now left wondering whether I really did run it as 'fast' as
I did or whether my watch was out of sync. It may not be deemed as a fast time
by some, if not most, but if you know me and / or have seen my other running
times you will understand why and I also "don't do" hills! I really hope that
the official results appear soon.
A social gathering (barbeque and beer) took place
alongside the prize giving. I was given the prize for 1st Male Veteran 65+ ....
lucky old me, although I was asked to pass it on to Bill Billington (Stopsley
Striders) as he was not in attendance.
Thank you very much Jack for 'nagging' at me all
the way around.
