I didn't detect any royalty at the 10km
'Race of the Kings' although the ex-pro cyclists Laurent (35:02) and Nicolas
(36:24) Jalabert recorded impressive times on the fast IAFF-approved course.
The race was an hommage to Serge Lévy,
a major motivator for running in South-West France (and a Tour de France
journalist), whose early death was announced just before Christmas. Runners
were invited to wear Serge's favourite colour yellow but, perhaps because of
the local custom of entering races on the day, some were unaware of this. In
the video of the congested start on the website my yellow wooly hat (it was a
cold morning) can been seen a lot more than 24 seconds behind the Jalaberts.
With my finishing time of 40:24 (72nd overall and 3rd in my
V3 category) I would have been glad of those 24 seconds at the finish but can
still claim a Harriers' V65 best time and returned home with a couple of
bottles of wine.
