I returned from the 24km Trail de Fontefroide (http://ascn-jogging.net) in the wine producing region near Narbonne a little the worse for wear but compensated by a 30 euro voucher, a not-oversized flourescent yellow T-shirt, and three bottles of the local product to aid my recuperation. In addition to acquiring a painful blister on my heel I also managed to leave some skin on the rocks when I fell on a stoney descent in the first few kilometres. This shook my little-remaining confidence but I eventually managed to limp to first place in my category, 98th overall out of 403 finishers in 2:17:20 after 900m of climbing.
The weather was cool and sunny - perfect for running and there were magnificent views over the Med and the hinterland from the high points. Not unusually, the post-race picnic, prize-giving and tombola took more time than the actual running but all were very enjoyable in a very friendly atmosphere.
