Northumberland Coastal Run

Perhaps the hardest part of this
extremely popular 14 miler from Beadnell to Alnmouth along the
scenic Northumberland coast is getting an entry. I entered
online just 8 minutes after the midnight opening and already the
field was more than half full.
I was very surprised to be greeted at the start line on the beach surrounded by geordies, yorkshiremen and scots by another Bedford Harrier. It turned out he had booked a holiday in the area long ago but only found out about the race the previous day.
Definitely no chance of entry on
the line.
When I entered I was planning some long training runs but because of injury I arrived at the start line with minimal preparation for what was to be my longest run in almost two years. Despite my worries and a strong headwind I completed the course faster than I hoped and without any significant niggles from injured parts. Highly recommended but it takes a bit of personal organisation to enter and travel to this unusual event.
